Doum Palm (Hyphaene thebaica)
Doum Palm (botanical name is Hyphaene thebaica) is originally native to the Nile Valley, and also grows in both Western and Northern Africa and parts of the Arabian peninsula. So medicinal is this plant that ancient Egyptians considered it to be sacred. It is also called gingerbread palm because it tastes like gingerbread. In Nigeria, it grows in the North. Hausas call it "goruba." They chew it and use it to make goruba tea (aka "shayin goruba"). It is believed to have the following uses:
(1.) A relaxant effect on the body to naturally enhance mood.
(2.) Lactogenic effect that boosts milk production in nursing mothers.
(3.) Anti-prostatitis effects in men.
(4.) Anti-atherosclerosis effects
