West African black pepper (Piper guineensis) also called Ashanti pepper, Benin pepper, Guinea cubeb, masoro, soro wisa, and uziza is an aromatic pepper native to West Africa. It has an earthy, smoky, woody, and mildly bitter flavor with just the right amount of kick. A little goes a long way. It is popularly used in Nigerian peppersoup because of the rich and tasty aroma it imparts.
